How to do it? Russian production and manufacturers

To come up with the actual concept – is only half the story, you also need to make it a reality. Under the theme of the month Mate Design in August, "Russian season: Russian contemporary design and architecture", we decided to find out where and how Russian designers implement their ideas and identified three categories of production and producers who are creating objects. First, it is the brands that have their own production, and second, workshops that make the items to order, including for product designers. And finally, thirdly, there is the artisan factory that cooperate with modern designers. Tell about the representatives of each category in more detail.

Brands with its own production

Own production is, on the one hand, it is very costly, and therefore difficult, and with another – opens up new possibilities: it is possible to create, without thinking about the search for an adequate manufacturer. Famous Russian brand with its own production company Archpole. Co-founder of the brand, Cyril Langues first thought about creating custom-made furniture for their architectural projects, but producers have not found and decided to make their own furniture. "First sawed at the kitchen, then moved to a separate place," says the designer. Today Archpole has its own production workshop, and this is perhaps the most well-known Russian furniture brand. At least, this is evidenced by the research anthology "the Collection" held in 2017.

The same principle works furniture manufacture "Yarat", which was founded by the architect Peter Safiullin and exists on a par with the same architectural office.

Another brand with our own production – Latitude, the brand of furniture and light in the tradition of Scandinavian design. It's a design Studio and production workshop with its own shop in Moscow: the production brand passes through all stages, "from birth to the consumer" under the direct control of the founders, Nikolay and Stepan Nikitin. Today it is the premium brand of designer furniture, objects for which comes up, including Dima Loginov. All items are brand sells on its own. "We independently develop the design of future products, fulfill woodworking and machining metal parts, art castings of bronze and brass decoration – in short, from the customer request up to the delivery, we are personally responsible for all stages of production", – said the representatives of Yachtline.

For example, "Dymov Ceramics" supervised the project "Cheburashka" Luke Nichetto and Lera Moiseeva – on the basis of the production designers made a series of tableware on the technology of the XVI century – black pottery.

Sila Mazhorov – brand conceptual designer of furniture and joiner's production. All of the items guys do ourselves at our own workshops in Moscow. One of the most beautiful projects brand tables with the "lunar" surface of the Muse,created in collaboration with artist Irina Nuzhdina.

Their production is, and the brand Montly, project graduate is a teacher of British women Alisa Minkina. All objects are brand– tables, chairs, lamps collected by hand using wood veneers, twisted through a unique authoring technology.

Factory Russian crafts

Russian designers show to the Russian crafts more interest. They cooperate with factories or uses the ancient tradition of manufacturing, whether it be bark or chernoplodnaja ceramics.

Designer Anastasiya koshcheeva is a native of the city, but lives and works in Berlin. On the basis of the Ivanovo furniture factory, she opened the production of items made of birch bark under its own brand name Moya.

Other historic textiles, Gzhel porcelain factory, worked Diana Balashova, Elina Tuktamysheva and Sergey Sysoyev.
