Less is More: Bathroom of the Future in Big City
Year by year, more and more people are moving to cities, resulting in an increasing scarcity of living spaces and growing square meter rates. At the same time, we still want to live better and are not willing to sacrifice our quality of life. Comfort, both physical and emotional, has become our top priority, and we’re currently find ourselves in need for solutions that are capable of ensuring us decent living conditions even within the limited space. The last project by German company sieger design GmbH & Co. KG offers compact hotel and home spaces with bathrooms that fulfill all the standards of a luxury spa, while occupying minimum area.
The bathroom of the future is a small space with great significance. The new bathroom functions go beyond the purely utility applications. Today, it’s not simply a place for everyday hygienic procedures, but a kind of shelter to restore one’s spiritual balance after hard and challenging day. The concept is based on the Small Size Premium Spa (SSPS®) – a carefully designed zone of architecture and a functional arrangement of elements. The spacious wet zone, measuring approximately 3.5 square meters, is only separated from the dry zone buy a glass screen – together they create compact, but well-balanced space.
The first visualization of the Small Size Premium Spa was published in 2015, and at the same time, the project received the first prize of the prestigious German Iconic Award.
In 2018, this concept was further developed. Sieger Design GmbH & Co. KG presented two options of conceptual space: SSPS® Suite for hotels and SSPS® Apartament for 35-square-metre city home.
SSPS® Suite occupies the total area of only 8 square meters. The concept was been developed for luxurious hotels with limited space. Instead of designing large public spa zones, the hotels may think about locating its own spas in individual rooms, enabling the guests to enjoy health-promoting treatments anytime without leaving the room. Hotel managers have to be innovative and offer their guests something more than simply the comfort – the special atmosphere and personalized experience. SSPS® Suite space is designed to immediately create the feeling of privacy and security. Sure, it’s much more enjoyable to have a bath in such private atmosphere than sharing a common space with strangers.
The bathroom features both a vertical and horizontal shower with integrated rain panel, large cross-section hose (dousing with cold water is almost equivalent to passive fitness workout), washstand with double sink, extendable sprinkler heads and affusion pipes can be used to apply water to individual parts of the body, as well as the huge mirror. The toilet is designed as separate architectural unit and can be closed on two sides, so it may be used simultaneously with the bath. All the bathroom features are automated, so you can set not only the lighting, sounds and fragrance but also arrange a steam bath in the wet zone, so the hotel room transforms into a valuable space for personal peace and comfort.
SSPS® Suite
SSPS® Apartament is a project of residential apartment featuring an integrated private spa. The concept is suitable even for the tiny living spaces with total area of 35 square meters. We want to enjoy the advantages of the city, without compromising personal comfort, and designers come to help and offer us a solution. At the heart of the SSPS® Apartment concept is the support of rejuvenating water treatments, enabling people to actively remain healthy and promote good health even in the big city setting. Moreover, the wet bathroom zone occupies only 3,5 square meters of space.
The structure features a bath behind a translucent glass barrier which lets in daylight from the living area. The dry zone may bolster generous washstand with integrated lighting. From here, a door leads to the wet showering zone. The swinging door can also be opened wider to comfortably move into the wet zone, featuring diverse spa functions. In addition to the vertical shower and the showing bench with in-built heating system for convenience, the system also features special massage jets to stimulate various parts of the body. Powerful water jets help to relieve the stress, rejuvenate the skin and promote health, which is absolutely necessary in the big city setting. The toilet is designed as separate space with individual entrance and small sink for handwashing.
The living area likewise guarantees an efficient use of space. A large wardrobe features many drawers and shelves, while a compact kitchen occupies only 7 square meters and includes both cooking and dining area. The concept also features a laundry adjacent to the bathroom.
SSPS® Suite
When working on our projects, we’ve always paid a lot of attention to their adaptability: it’s highly important to enable a person to fit everything to his or her individual needs. In order to do so, you have to carefully design the architecture and functional arrangement of all components. Moreover, this innovative concepts demonstrates what we’re currently lacking and what we have to design in the future, such as large waterproof screens acting as a kind of virtual window and simulating the contact with the outer world. We need the technologies that would be attractive to people, easy and comfortable to use.
By the way, my favorite part of SSPS® concept is the Dornbracht horizontal shower bench, because it gives me a chance to lie down and relax whilst showering.
